Journalist, author, event host
I specialise in housing and architecture, travel, place and cities with a focus on the possibilities of radical urban planning. My journalism has appeared in The Guardian, The Telegraph, The Times and Sunday Times, The House, Art UK and more. I'm a former staff section editor at The Times and now write a weekly column for the same publication, appearing in the UK Life & Style section on Tuesdays and Scotland on Saturdays.
I am currently working on my second book, a narrative non-fiction exploration of future cities. The People are the City: Dispatches from the Urban Future, will be published by Headline Press in summer 2026. Read more here.
In 2022 I was named Travel Writer of the Year at the Scottish Press Awards and Regional Journalist of the Year at the UK Property Press Awards. The following year I was named runner-up for Scoop of the Year for my investigations into abuse at high-end restaurant kitchens. I'm a past recipient of the Mairi Hedderwick Travel Writing Award from Moniack Mhor, Scotland's writing centre.
I chair all kinds of live events, from book festivals to TV show launches. Previous clients include Aye Write book festival, BBC Scotland and Smart Works.
I am represented by Sophie Lambert of C&W Agency.
